Case Overview

Confero Mobile brings the power of the Confero platform to iOS and Android, allowing seamless video conferencing from anywhere. My goal was to not just shrink the interface but to rethink interactions to match mobile-specific behavior while maintaining consistency across platforms.

1️⃣ Introduction

image

After the successful launch of the Web & Desktop version, the company saw the need to expand to mobile platforms. Confero Mobile became a natural next step, allowing users to manage meetings anytime, anywhere.

🚧 Challenge: Ensure a smooth and familiar user experience across mobile while optimizing interactions for touch-based devices.

🔍 Key Challenges & Insights

Challenge
Impact
Adapting desktop navigation for mobile
Existing multi-level menus wouldn’t work well on smaller screens.
Touch-friendly interactions
Needed to rethink common actions like chat, video grid, and participant management.
Consistency across platforms
Users expected seamless transitions between devices.

2️⃣ Research & Adaptation

🧠 Research Focus:

  • Studied how users handle video calls on mobile to identify common patterns.
  • Reviewed UX solutions in competing apps to learn from the best.
  • Prioritized seamless experience across Web, TV, and Mobile to minimize learning curves.

Key Insight

Mobile adaptation isn’t just shrinking — it’s rethinking navigation, gestures, and core interactions to match mobile-first behavior.

3️⃣ Key UX Improvements

🔹 1. Optimized Navigation & Interface Structure

⚠️ Key Challenge

The desktop’s sidebar approach didn’t fit mobile screens and overloaded the UI.

image

✅ What I Did

  • Introduced bottom navigation bar for quick access to chats, meetings, contacts, and settings.
  • Added a one-tap meeting start button directly to the bottom bar.
  • Used gesture-based interactions for secondary actions, aligning with iOS and Android conventions.

🏆 Result

  • Users easily navigate with one hand.
  • Essential features are always within reach.

🔹 2. Mobile-Friendly Chat Experience

⚠️ Key Challenge

Web-optimized chats lacked touch-friendly interactions and voice messaging support.

image

✅ What I Did

  • Added swipe gestures to reply, delete, and archive messages.
  • Integrated quick actions to start calls or schedule meetings directly from chats.
  • Introduced voice messaging, allowing quick audio communication.

🏆 Result

  • Chat became faster and more intuitive.
  • Voice messages were later successfully brought into the Web & Desktop version.

🔹 3. Optimized Video Grid

⚠️ Key Challenge

The desktop grid (20-25 participants per screen) didn’t work on smaller displays.

image

✅ What I Did

  • Limited visible participants to 12 per screen.
  • Introduced horizontal swipe navigation for additional participants.
  • Added active speaker indicator to ensure off-screen speakers were visible.

🏆 Result

  • Improved focus on active participants.
  • Users could easily switch between views, even in large meetings.
