Case Overview

Confero TV brings the power of Confero to modern conference rooms, ensuring a smooth, intuitive experience on large screens. The project focused on adapting core functionality for remote control navigation, ensuring readability from a distance, and maintaining consistency with the Web & Mobile versions.

1️⃣ Introduction

image

When I joined the team, Confero was already established as a Web & Desktop platform. I was actively improving it when a new challenge emerged — adapting the product for Smart TVs.

💡 Why it mattered: Modern meeting rooms rely on large screens for video calls, but simply mirroring the desktop UI wasn’t enough. Remote control navigation, screen distance, and interaction required a tailored UX approach.

🔍 Key Challenges & Insights

Challenge
Impact
Remote control navigation
Users needed intuitive, button-based navigation rather than point-and-click.
Readability from a distance
Text and key elements had to be larger and clearer for visibility.
Quick feature access
Camera, mic, and participant controls needed to be reachable instantly.

2️⃣ Research & Competitor Analysis

🧠 Research Focus:

  • Analyzed how users interact with Smart TV apps (including conferencing platforms).
  • Studied Microsoft Teams Rooms, Cisco Webex Room Devices, and Poly Studio solutions.
  • Defined how to adapt Confero’s logic for large screens while ensuring consistency.

Key Takeaway

TV UX requires more than resizing—it’s about rethinking interaction logic to match remote control behavior.

3️⃣ Key UX Improvements

🔹 1. Universal Dashboard

⚠️ Key Challenge

The desktop’s screen-by-screen navigation would be too slow and complex for TV users.

image

✅ What I Did

  • Created a unified dashboard that combines events, calls, and rooms in one screen.
  • Used horizontal carousels for intuitive remote control scrolling.
  • Integrated self-view and PTZ camera controls directly into the dashboard.

🏆 Result

  • Users can access everything from one screen with minimal clicks.

🔹 2. Quick Actions

⚠️ Key Challenge

The desktop’s multi-step actions were too slow for remote control users.

image

✅ What I Did

  • Added direct actions to the dashboard: Call, Start Now, Join via ID.
  • Enabled one-click meeting launches without extra screens.
  • Designed floating action panels for quick contextual controls without leaving the current screen.

🏆 Result

  • Key actions are faster and require fewer steps, optimized for remote navigation.

🔹 3. Simplified Event Creation

⚠️ Key Challenge

The web’s freeform event creation process was cumbersome for TV users with remote control.

✅ What I Did

  • Built a step-by-step wizard with clear stages: Details, Date, Participants, Settings.
  • Added auto-saving, so users never lose progress.

🏆 Result

  • Event creation became intuitive and frustration-free for remote control users.
